Maya is 9!

My sweet Doodle turned 9 years old. I thought it was yesterday but it was really today. Got a little confused by the Holiday weekend. She is doing well after knee surgery a year ago but is definitely slowing down. She is enjoying her time in the sun...
She got lots of pets on her birthday and enjoyed a long walk in the forest yesterday to admire the trilliums.

The Dreaded Lampshade

Maya is still on the road to recovery and unfortunately, that includes wearing the dreaded lampshade. Look at that poor sad face.
I'm sure all pet owners go through this at some stage in their pets life. Surprisingly, they seem to adapt to it pretty well, eating and drinking and sniffing the ground. Just can't itch or lick, 2 of her favourite things. Hopefully, won't be for too much longer.
In the meantime, she is getting lots of special treatment, massages, hot and cold compresses and lots of petting and one on one time.

Maya is 7

Long time, no post. Tis the season to have no free nights and yardwork and housework and work, work. Just like everyone else. Golf season is here too. So what's been happening?
I've been working on the Fundraiser like crazy, lots of details but there are some really good things going to happen and I'm really excited for the day. Can't show too many photos ahead of time, I like there to be a few surprises.

Maya turned 7 last week. The years are flying by. She got a new bed and a haircut for her big day. The bed she likes and she's coming around to the haircut. It's nice and short and much cooler for her but she's not that fond of getting bathed.

The new Look....

Afternoon Nap

This is what happens when you forget to put the hangers back on the couch when you go for a nap.

The dogs are not allowed on my living room furniture and instead of blocking off the room or putting the cushions up, I use a tip that someone gave me years ago. Put a couple metal coat hangers on the flat surface and that will do the trick. It works really well to keep the pets off ( if you remember to put them back ON!) and doesn't look too unslightly. Did I  mention that I have FOUR overpriced dog beds strewn around the home already as an alternate sleeping location?

Life Goes on

Well, I'm starting to pick up the pieces now that the puppies are gone and one of the first things on the agenda was to get Maya groomed. You have met Maya before but I never really said too much about her. All my life, I had Dalmatians. In fact, most of them were named Pepper (so original). My last Dal was Bailey and she was the love of my life. There will never be another dog like her and it took me 2 years after her passing before I was able to get another. I thought this time I would just pick up a mutt and I did a lot of research and fell into the big trend to get a Lab x Standard Poodle cross. Of course, I got the one that sheds AND barks but she is also very gentle and very sweet with people (once you get in the door, that is. LOL)
Maya gets groomed several times a year but I don't mind when she looks like a mop doll either. Just easier to keep the house clean when her fur is short. This is the first time, she came home without a beard!

BEFORE

AFTER

She feels like a velour blanket. Her fur is very fine, the kind that floats around when you try and sweep it into the dust bin. I PROMISE, I won't talk about dogs all the time. In fact, I have already started back into the baking making butter tarts and carrot cake for Easter. More on that later.

Sister comes home

Maya, Lindor's labradoodle sister has been staying with a friend of mine for a few days. She is a very sweet dog but she tends to bark a bit and I didn't want her to disturb the new Mom. Also, the set up in my house makes it impossible to keep Lindor and her babies isolated from her "sister". Maya is very gentle and gives Lindor her space at all times. So far, it's going pretty well. Plus, we've been down this road before so we all know what to expect.

I don't have the best camera for closeups but you can get some idea of the size of the puppies. They are the happiest when they are snuggled up next to Mom and she doesn't mind a bit.

I call them all YODA, when they are first born as their ears are pined back against their heads. Most of them have flopped over now so they are starting to look more like puppies.
Everybody is having an afternoon nap right now. Sounds like a good idea to me too.
